TheBritishHome The British Home

The British Home is an independent charity founded in 1861 and granted a Royal Charter in 1894. For over 150 years, The British Home has cared for adults with severe neuro-disabilities including those with acquired brain damage supporting them through specialised nursing and rehabilitative care. The British Home has made a significant investment towards the future of its rehabilitation services to support our ambition towards becoming a leader in this critical field. The Trustees of the Charity have also significantly advanced plans for the development of a new state- of- the- art- care facility, enabling us to offer new and advanced approaches towards supporting people with neuro-disabilities to live more independently. We are now seeking a Head of Communications and Fundraising to support our ambition for growth and to cement our position as a sector-leader in neurological care.

The Head of Communications and Fundraising will be responsible for leading and managing communications, and for the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of transformational fundraising strategies to promote the profile and work of the charity. This is an important role for The British Home where we recognise the importance of good communications and leadership and there is huge scope for you to stamp your mark on this brand new position.

As part of the senior management team you will report directly to the CEO and develop the communications strategy, brand and marketing positioning. This will include developing engaging content, supporting the delivery of an internal communications strategy and managing media relations.

You will lead on all aspects of the charity’s fundraising and in particular through building long-term affinities with major donors. You will possess an entrepreneurial flair and will increase The British Home’s capacity and resources for fundraising, through re-investing a proportion of the donations received to build a new fundraising team.

You should be a persuasive and inspirational communicator with substantial management experience, combining a natural authority with flair and imagination. You should be able to lead a team with authority and gravitas and be able to set targets and manage performance. Ideally, you will have previous experience of working in communications in the non-for profit sector/social care sector. Specific experience in health care or hospice environments would be an advantage. You should also have proven experience of developing and managing continuous relationships with major donors.
